56 top government officials formulate proposals for smart savings

In their search for smart savings, the Itinera Institute went knocking on the door of several top officials of the federal government. 56 officials formulated no less than 450 concrete and feasible proposals that can make the functioning of the public services more efficient and cost-saving. More than one third of the consulted officials are a member of general management of their FPS. Several proposals were formulated by different top officials and enjoy broad support. Itinera asks the government to consider these proposals and start running a smart savings policy instead of implementing linear and shortsighted savings.

Itinera calls on the government to implement less linear saving measures and to consider the durable proposals formulated by government officials. The government should not be obsessed by “the number of officials”, but should observe the full cost when implementing saving measures. Revise the definition of roles and responsibilities in a sustainable manner and encourage a long-term vision to avoid continuous adjustments. The government finally needs to allow temporary contracts. The federal ICT service Fedict only provides support to the horizontal public services. Itinera proposes that this service will be expanded and offered to all FPSs.
