Fiscal gap increases to € 6 200 per household…and is not compensated by very high expenditures on social protection and health care 2

Belgium ranks second in comparisons of total fiscal burden (as % of GDP). This implies that a Belgian household pays € 6 200 more on taxes than households in neighbouring countries. The fiscal gap with Germany is € 7 274 per year (slightly less than the price of a small car). The high fiscal pressure contrains the purchasing power of Belgian households and is not compensated by very high public spending levels on social protection and health care. Belgium overspends on general public services and on economic affairs (including subsidies). In case our government really cares about our purchasing power, not the VAT on electricity should be addressed but our political model based on very high taxes.
